Centenarian Emogene Creque dies at 106

The territory has lost one of its Centenarians.

Emogene Augusta Creque was 106.

Speaker of the House of Assembly Corrine George Massicote extended condolences on behalf of the Members and staff, to her family and friends.

In a statement Speaker George-Massicote said Creque made history in 1965 when she became the first female member of the Legislative Council, appointed as a temporary member for Joseph R. O’Neal.

The Speaker stated that as a staunch business woman, her legacy is deeply woven into the fabric of the community.

She said they mourn her passing and honour her lasting contributions to the community and to the people of the Virgin Islands.

In September of last year, Creque was one of seven centenarians honoured by the Social Development Department.
