PRISONER DIES IN CELL AT BALSAM GHUT- NO INDICATION OF SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES

An investigation is underway into the death of a prisoner at Balsam Ghut.

Reports say James Gordon also known as Jimmy, said to be in his late 60’s was on remand for assault charges, and he was found dead in his cell Tuesday.

The circumstances surrounding his death are not known at this time.

Meanwhile Superintendent at the Prison Jay Kendall said the Prison Service regrets to confirm the passing of an inmate at the Prison, in Balsam Ghut, Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Kendall said the next of kin have been duly notified, and they extend their deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time.

He said in accordance with established protocols, an investigation is underway and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is conducting the necessary inquiries.

The Superintendent made it clear that at this time, there is no indication of suspicious circumstances.

He also said that the Prison Chaplain and Counsellor remain available to offer support to staff, inmates, and family members who may be affected by this loss.
