After receiving massive increases in salaries for more than one year without the public’s knowledge, the House of Assembly in a release says it is dedicated to accountability and transparency.
The release says the House of Assembly acknowledges the Special Report of the Auditor General concerning the Financing of the 2024 Public Service Salary Increases, which was presented to the House on Tuesday, 16 September 2025.
The release referenced the report, dated 27 May 2025, which it said was prepared in accordance with section 20 of the Audit Act, 2003, and authorizes the Auditor General to submit such reports to the Governor for presentation to the House of Assembly.
The release says the House notes the public interest and concern expressed following media coverage, particularly regarding compensation for elected officials.
It says with the report now officially before the House, members will undertake a thorough review of its findings, engage in detailed discussions, and provide a formal response consistent with established parliamentary procedures.
If further notes that the House reiterates its dedication to transparency, accountability, and proper due process and an official response, inclusive of comprehensive information for the public, will be issued in due course.
The House has appealed for the patience of the people of the Virgin Islands as the matter proceeds through the appropriate parliamentary channels and assures that the concerns raised will be addressed.
