At the Ninth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fifth House of Assembly on Monday, Opposition Leader Myron Walwyn raised concerns about the growing bureaucracy in the Virgin Islands, saying the Territory is beginning to feel “decentralized” under the weight of new governance requirements.
Walwyn was speaking in the House of Assembly chamber in Road Town, Tortola, where he cautioned that the recommendations arising from the Commission of Inquiry (COI) must not be taken lightly.

The COI, launched in 2021 by the United Kingdom, investigated allegations of poor governance, corruption, and misuse of public funds in the Virgin Islands.

The Opposition Leader urged the House to balance compliance with efficiency, warning that unchecked bureaucracy could undermine the very progress the reforms were designed to achieve.
