The Virgin Islands is playing host to Attorneys General and Senior Legal Advisors from across the British Overseas Territories, the Crown Dependencies and the United Kingdom for the annual Overseas Territories Attorneys General Conference through Friday, April 17th.
This year’s conference is being held under the theme Stronger Together: Common Challenges, Collaborative Solutions and provides a forum for frank discussions on issues of direct relevance to participants.
Discussions today and tomorrow will centre around issues in constitutional, human rights and maritime law, sanctions implementation, strengthening governance systems, judicial modernisation, criminal justice and cross-border crime.
Attorney General Dawn Smith said that each Overseas Territory takes turns hosting this important Conference, and they are honoured that the Virgin Islands serves as this year’s host.
AG Smith said she looks forward to engaging with her colleagues in substantive discussions on the legal challenges confronting their jurisdictions and to exchanging experiences, insights, and best practices.”
She added, “The theme of this year’s Conference underscores the value of collaboration, reminding them that, through collective effort, they can achieve far more than they can alone.”
Following the discussions, a joint communiqué will be adopted and an action plan agreed upon by the delegates.
