The BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association is lobbying the National Security Council to allow business owners in the Territory to be armed, citing ongoing concerns over violent crime and repeated armed robberies targeting businesses.
The issue has gained renewed attention following last week’s armed robbery at House of Luxury, which marked the third time the business has been targeted. During the incident, armed robbers reportedly escaped with a quantity of jewelry and remain at large. Chairman of the Chamber, Sinclair Flemming, said the organisation’s lobbying efforts were already underway prior to the latest robbery.
