The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the capture and arrest of two escaped fugitives, Jose Almestica and John Burgos, both residents of the United States Virgin Islands.
The two men escaped from His Majesty’s Prison at Balsam Ghut, Tortola, on October 25, 2025, and have remained on the run ever since. Police say both fugitives continue to evade law enforcement and are actively being sought.
The RVIPF describe the pair as armed and extremely dangerous, warning members of the public not to approach them under any circumstances.
Almestica was serving a six-year prison sentence for unlawful possession of a firearm at the time of his escape. He had also recently been convicted by a nine-member jury on multiple firearms, explosives, and drug-related charges and was awaiting sentencing. In addition, he is awaiting trial in connection with the 2021 murder of Deverson Williams in Fish Bay, Tortola. Authorities in the U.S. Virgin Islands are also seeking him for serious offences, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and assault.
Burgos had been remanded to prison on charges related to firearms, ammunition, and drug possession. He is also wanted for questioning by the U.S. Virgin Islands Police Department in connection with a 2023 murder investigation. The RVIPF is urging anyone with information on the whereabouts of either man to come forward immediately. The police say even the smallest piece of information could be crucial in locating and apprehending the fugitives.

Police say the capture of the two fugitives remains a priority as concerns persist over the potential threat they pose to public safety.
