The BVI Ports Authority, BVIPA says it is taking steps to minimize disruptions throughout the hurricane season.
BVIPA in a press release said with commencement of the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season, it is urging stakeholders to ensure they expedite the processing and submission of all required documentation for cargo clearance.
According to BVIPA, timely completion of documentation will facilitate the swift clearance and collection of cargo, help minimize potential disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions and improve overall port efficiency during this critical period.
It is further advising that current assessments indicate high occupancy levels at cargo storage facilities, which may lead to delays in cargo retrieval if documentation is not processed promptly.
Additionally, BVIPA noted that external system-related delays are impacting the timely issuance of required documentation, contributing to congestion.
The authority is therefore urging stakeholders to prioritize the early submission of all required documents, ensure all paperwork is accurate and complete and make arrangements for prompt cargo collection upon arrival.
