Virgin Islands Climate Change Trust Fund (VICCTF) will host a series of stakeholder consultations across the Territory from July 20 to 24 as it prepares to launch its first funding call aimed at supporting climate resilience and sustainability initiatives.
The consultations will give government agencies, statutory bodies, private sector organisations, non-governmental organisations, community groups and faith-based organisations an opportunity to learn about the Trust’s inaugural Call for Proposals (CFP 2026-01), which is scheduled to open in August and September.
The first round of funding will be available through two grant categories: Community Resilience and Capacity-Building and Climate-Smart Education. Participants will also receive guidance on the Trust’s governance structure, funding requirements and the proposal submission process.
Chief Executive Officer of the Virgin Islands Climate Change Trust Fund, Chamberlain Emmanuel, said the consultations represent a significant milestone as the Trust transitions from its establishment to delivering financial support for climate action throughout the Territory.
“We want every eligible organisation across the Territory to understand what this fund can do for their community and how to access it,” Emmanuel said.
Consultation sessions will be held on Tortola on July 20 at 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., and on July 21 at 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the BVI Finance Conference Room in Cutlass Tower. Additional meetings are scheduled for Anegada on July 22 at the Emile Dunlop Community Centre, Jost Van Dyke on July 24 at the Primary School’s new building, and Virgin Gorda later that day at the Flax Administration Building Conference Room. An online consultation via Zoom will also be available on July 24 for organisations unable to attend in person.
Representatives of eligible organisations are encouraged to register in advance to participate, with further details to be provided upon registration.
Established under the Virgin Islands Climate Change Trust Fund Act, 2015, the Trust was created to mobilise, manage and distribute climate finance to support local climate change adaptation and mitigation initiatives. The Secretariat officially opened in February 2026, while the Trust was launched internationally in April during the Global Sustainable Islands Summit in Gran Canaria, Spain.
The stakeholder consultations are expected to help organisations prepare strong funding applications while ensuring that local priorities are reflected in future climate investment across the Virgin Islands.
