BVIHSA temporarily suspends EMS coverage amid staffing shortage

The BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has temporarily suspended Emergency Medical Services (EMS) coverage from the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, citing a staffing shortage worsened by employee illnesses.

The Authority announced the disruption to the public as it works to address the staffing situation and restore EMS operations.

BVIHSA said it is currently coordinating available resources and exploring options to restore emergency medical coverage as quickly as possible.

The temporary suspension raises concerns about access to emergency medical response in the Territory, with BVIHSA acknowledging the importance of EMS to the community and the concern the disruption may cause.

The Authority said it is working urgently to resolve the staffing situation and return to normal EMS operations.

Residents will be provided with further updates as the availability of emergency medical services changes.

BVIHSA thanked the public for its patience and understanding while efforts continue to restore the service.
