As the new Greenland Field enters its first phase of completion, the Premier acknowledged a noticeable shift in the territory’s sporting culture, noting that while softball was once a dominant and beloved pastime, football is steadily gaining greater acceptance among younger players.
Speaking on the development, the Premier said the upgraded facility represents government’s commitment to community advancement.
However, one resident expressed mixed feelings, stating that although he appreciates the investment in infrastructure, more should be done to restore sports such as softball and basketball to the forefront.
According to the resident, those traditional sports have long been played by locals and form an important part of the community’s identity, and efforts to develop facilities and programming should reflect that legacy while embracing new trends.
