PLM names Clifton Forbes as Third District candidate

The People’s Leadership Movement (PLM), led by former legislator Mark H. Vanterpool, has announced educator and construction professional Clifton Forbes as its candidate for the Third Electoral District in the upcoming general elections.

In a press release on Thursday, Vanterpool welcomed Forbes to the movement, highlighting his extensive background in education and construction.

“Clifton Forbes brings a wealth of experience in education and construction to his candidacy – exactly the kind of practical, proven expertise we need in someone representing the people of the Third District.”

Forbes brings more than 30 years of experience in Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET), as well as the construction industry. A certified Automotive Technician, he began his career as a TVET educator at BVI High School, now Elmore Stoutt High School, where he taught Automotive Technology and Craft, Design and Technology (CDT), including metalwork, woodwork, technical drawing and basic electricity.

He later moved into school administration, serving as an Assistant Principal at the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies before retiring from the public service.

Following his retirement, Forbes transitioned into the construction industry, where he has worked as a site supervisor. He has drawn on his technical training in areas including blueprint reading and site supervision.

Forbes has also advocated for the expansion of TVET programmes in the Virgin Islands, including the establishment of a dedicated vocational campus to provide young people with territory-wide access to hands-on training in various trades.

Explaining his decision to enter politics, Forbes shared,

“I have spent my life preparing young people for the world of work and a brighter future. Now I want to bring that same commitment as I seek to represent the people of the Third District and to contribute directly to the development of the wider Virgin Islands. This is about rolling up our sleeves and getting things done, the same way I’ve approached every classroom and every job site.”

The PLM said Forbes’ professional record reflects the practical and results-driven leadership it hopes to bring to the next House of Assembly.

Forbes also expressed confidence in the PLM’s leadership and his decision to join the movement.

“I am proud to stand with the People’s Leadership Movement and with Mark Vanterpool. I have watched his performance for years, as a businessman who has built and delivered in the private sector, and as a government minister who got real projects done for this country. That is the kind of proven, hands-on leadership I want to be part of, and I believe together we can deliver real results for the people of the Third District and the entire Virgin Islands.”

Vanterpool described Forbes as a strong addition to the PLM team and said additional candidates will be announced.

“Mr. Forbes is a strong addition to this team. Our candidate drive continues, and the people of the Virgin Islands can expect further announcements.”
