BELIZE PRIME MINISTER TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

The newly elected Prime Minister of Belize John Briceño was swabbed for COVID-19 and has tested positive.

This was confirmed by the Office of the Prime Minister this evening.

It says Briceño will remain in isolation for the next two weeks, after which he will be re-tested. No other information was provided on this health.

The prime minister recently conducted a tour of flood-impacted areas in Belize.

Many Belizeans took to social media to wish him a speedy recovery.

Some commenters said: “Praying for the speedy recovery of the PM, in Jesus’ mighty name.”

“Get well Soon…try drink home remedies those are the best…”

There were also commenters who expressed concern and alarm about the prime minister’s condition.

Some commenters said: “All those who were with him needs to be tested.”

“So nobody gonna say it?? That this could have been prevented? If our leaders are contracting COVID, how are they to expect the normal citizen not to? Speedy recovery to you sir but this is not good.”

The Office of the Prime Minister continues to encourage the public to wear masks, practice social distancing, and continue to follow all guidelines of the Ministry of Health.
