REGIONAL SOCA ARTISTES BACK ON THE ROAD AS UNITED STATES REOPENS

With the United States reopening thanks to a vigorous vaccination campaign that has seen 100 million Americans fully vaccinated, opportunities for work are opening up for regional soca artistes and promoters.

Over the weekend, some soca artistes were seen performing at events in Miami where Jamaican mas band Xaymaca held a five-day party experience which also included a road march.

Skinny Fabulous, Teddyson John and Iwer George were among those turning their colleagues green with envy as they posted the scenes from the weekend to their social media.

Skinny Fabulous took a break from helping his countrymen in St Vincent and the Grenadines to host his party called Bloom as part of Xaymaca’s weekend of events. The food-inclusive Breakfast Party also featured a performance from 2020 Road March and Soca Monarch Iwer George.

St Lucia’s Teddyson John was also busy, performing at Soca all White and I Love Soca Jamaica.

The US mainland was not the only place artistes were getting a chance to perform. In the US Virgin Islands, Farmer Nappy kicked off his Backyard Jam Covid Tour at the 1 Night, 1 Fete event. The experimental fete catered to only 200 vaccinated patrons as the island’s Festival committee looks for ways to safely restart the entertainment sector.

The 2021 Soca Monarch and Online Road March winner said in a video posted to his IG that this was the first time since 2019 that he has been on the road and while it is dangerous, this is his life. He assured fans that he is taking all necessary precautions.

Nappy, who turns 50 today, is expected to perform at venues across the US including Miami for Fame Weekend.

Scorch, in collaboration with Medz, will host six outdoor events over the memorial Weekend – _uck Work Backyard Jam, Breaking Dawn Breakfast fete, Big Phat Fish All White, Rise & Toast Brunch, Medz Miami, and Bacchanal Monday Wear.
