USVI DELEGATE TO LEAD U.S. DEMOCRATS IN SUBCOMMITTEE ON “WEAPONIZATION”

USVI based Congressional Delegate Stacey Plaskett has been appointed to serve on a select subcommittee of the US House Judiciary Committee tasked with investigating the “weaponization” of the Federal Government.

In essence, Plaskett will be one of the legislators tasked to investigate alleged abuses of federal authority by examining the conduct and decisions of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice during investigations into the Insurrection of the Capitol and the activities of Former President Donald Trump on January 6th, 2021.

She was named as the lead member for the panel of Democrats on the Committee and is expected to lead efforts to combat the idea that the federal agencies were “weaponized” in that investigation.

Plaskett previously served as one of the impeachment managers during Donald Trump’s impeachment trial in the US Senate following the January 6th, 2021, incident.

In acknowledging her appointment, she said “The Republican’s attempt to derail the federal government’s obligation to investigate and conduct due process on actions, organisations and individuals that threaten our republic and create an anti-democratic environment will be met with strong resistance by myself and my Democratic colleagues on the subcommittee.”

She added that she is committed to doing “the difficult, but necessary work of the committee with the collaboration of a stellar group of Democratic Members”.

Plaskett is the first representative of a US territory to occupy this post.
