EXXONMOBIL ANNOUNCES NEW OIL DISCOVERY OFFSHORE GUYANA

ExxonMobil Guyana announced a new oil discovery on Friday, March 15, marking their first find of 2024 in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana. The Bluefin well encountered a significant amount of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone, indicating potential for future development.

Drilled by the Stena Drillmax drillship in over 4,200 feet (1,294 meters) of water, the Bluefin well sits roughly 8.5 kilometers southeast of the previously successful Sailfin-1 well. This discovery strengthens ExxonMobil’s confidence in the Stabroek Block’s potential, adding to the over 30 finds made there since 2015.

“Our exploration program continues to improve our understanding of the block’s potential to drive viable oil-and-gas development. This latest find reinforces that we have the people, skills and technology to safely and responsibly deliver value to Guyana from the country’s resources,” said President of ExxonMobil Guyana Alistair Routledge.
