Virgin Islander Rikkoi A.R. Brathwaite blazed to a second-place finish in the Men’s 100m at the Grande Prêmio Brasil de Atletismo on Sunday, August 24, clocking a wind-assisted 9.92 seconds in a competitive field.
Brathwaite’s time placed him just behind Brazil’s national record holder Erik Filipe Barbosa Cardoso, who won the race in 9.88 seconds.
Brathwaite is now expected to represent the British Virgin Islands at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

Meanwhile, fellow BVI athlete Deya Erickson also competed at the São Paulo meet, finishing sixth in the Women’s 100m Hurdles with a time of 13.22 seconds. Erickson continues to gain international experience as she builds her profile in elite competition.
