DELILAH PEASE MAKES HISTORY AS BVI’S FIRST PAN AMERICAN SQUASH CHAMPION

The British Virgin Islands is celebrating a historic sporting achievement after 11-year-old squash prodigy Delilah Pease captured the territory’s first-ever title at the Pan American Squash Championships in Guatemala.

Competing in the Under-13 category, Pease defeated opponents from Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago, Jamaica, El Salvador, Mexico and Guatemala without dropping a single game, an achievement made even more remarkable by the fact that she only turned 11 on the penultimate day of the tournament.

National Coach Adam Murrills praised Pease’s performance, noting the prestige of the Pan American Championships, which drew more than 150 junior players from across the region, competing in age categories from Under-11 to Under-17.

Also representing the BVI was Jakob Noblett-Diaz, who competed in the Under-15 division. Despite sustaining an injury while playing off for positions 13–16, the 13-year-old has shown significant improvement over the past year and is expected to make strong strides in future tournaments.

Murrills also highlighted the camaraderie among Caribbean players at the event, noting the presence of three Caribbean athletes in the finals—a promising sign for the region’s squash development.
