BVIAA PRESIDENT PRAISES ATHLETES’ PERFORMANCES

President of the BVI Athletics Association (BVIAA), Steve Augustine, has commended the efforts of the territory’s athletes following their performances at the recent World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, while expressing optimism for stronger showings in the future.

Augustine highlighted the performance of sprinter Rikkoi Brathwaite, who clocked 10.23 seconds in the men’s 100 metres. He described the result as encouraging and believes Brathwaite is on a positive trajectory. In the women’s long jump, Chantel Malone reached the finals after leaping 6.23 metres during the qualification rounds.

Augustine also addressed the performance of hurdler Kyron McMaster, suggesting that he was not at his best during the competition. He indicated that the matter would be reviewed and discussed going forward.

Additionally, the BVIAA president reflected on the showing of thrower Dijmon Gumbs, acknowledging his contribution as part of the team’s overall efforts in Tokyo.
