Adaejah Hodge capped off a historic NCAA Outdoor Championships campaign on Saturday June 13th, capturing gold in the women’s 200 metres and silver in the 100 metres in Eugene, Oregon.
Hodge entered the finals after stunning the athletics world two days earlier with a wind-legal 10.63 seconds in the 100-metre preliminary round. Her performance shattered the previous NCAA Championships record of 10.75 seconds previously held by Sha’Carri Richardson and established a new British Virgin Islands national record. It also catapulted Hodge up world rankings as the 3rd best performance in the event in NCAA history and 5th in World Athletics rankings.
In Saturday’s 100 metre final, Hodge secured the silver medal, crossing the line in 10.93 seconds.
Later that evening, Hodge delivered one of the greatest performances in collegiate sprinting history, storming to victory in the 200 metre final in a world-leading 21.68 seconds.
The run earned her the NCAA title while simultaneously setting a new British Virgin Islands national record, personal best, NCAA Championships record, collegiate record and a new world lead in the event.
According to the BVI Athletics Association, Saturday’s events also cemented Hodge as the first Virgin Islands athlete to compete in both the 100 and 200-metre finals at the NCAA Division I Championships.
