Jaleel Croal and Wanyaé Belle have secured places in the men’s 200-metre semifinals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games after impressive performances in their opening-round heats.
Croal booked his spot after winning his heat in 20.53 seconds. He will compete in Semi-final 3 from Lane 3 on Thursday, July 30, at 2:19 p.m.
Belle also advanced, finishing second in his heat in 20.79 seconds to claim the final qualifying spot. He is scheduled to race in Semi-final 1 from Lane 1 at 2:07 pm on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Adriano Gumbs’ campaign came to an end after he clocked 21.77 seconds in the 200 metres, a time that was not enough to advance. The race marked his second Commonwealth Games appearance, having competed in the 400 metres at Birmingham 2022.
Reflecting on his performance, Gumbs admitted he was disappointed with his time.
“Just a bit disappointed with my time because this is the first 200m I’ve done without having to do the 400m before it, so I was expecting a faster time out of it,” he said.
Gumbs also spoke about the differences between competing at the Glasgow Games and his Commonwealth Games debut in Birmingham.
On the women’s side, Beyoncé returned to the track just hours after competing in the 100-metre semifinals, lining up for her opening-round race in the 200 metres.
Despite admitting she was feeling tired, the Virgin Islands sprinter said she put the fatigue aside and focused on executing her race.
“I was a bit tired, but I put that behind me and I had a good warm-up. I just went out there and run. I was in lane eight, so they had to catch me!” she said.
After dealing with injuries throughout the season, Beyoncé said she was pleased with her performance and the time she produced.
