The British Virgin Islands has secured trademarks affirming its position as the sailing capital.
This was announced by the BVI Tourist Board & Film Commission.
The BVITB said they have officially secured three new trademarks under the Territory of the Virgin Islands Trade Marks Act, 2013, further cementing its reputation as a premier sailing destination.
The newly registered trademarks include, The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the World, British Virgin Islands – The Undisputed Sailing Capital of the Caribbean and The British Virgin Islands – Sailing Capital of the Caribbean.
According to the Board, each mark has been formally registered for a period of 10 years, beginning May 7, 2024, underscoring the BVIs’ unmatched sailing, vibrant yachting culture and as a leader in the global sailing community.
Director of Tourism Clive Mc Coy stated that the BVI has long been recognized as one of the best sailing destinations in the world, thanks to their steady trade winds, navigable channels, manageable currents, multiple islands and protected bays.
McCoy said further that securing these trademarks is a powerful step in protecting their identity, strengthening our position in the international market and ensuring that travellers, sailors and partners alike associate the BVI with sailing excellence.”
He said the trademarks will play a key role in global marketing campaigns, furthering the BVI’s dedication to promoting itself as being synonymous with sailing adventures.
