TROUGH SYSTEM BRINGS SHOWERS AND CLOUDY SKIES TO BVI; USVI UNDER FLOOD WARNING

The British Virgin Islands is experiencing unsettled weather this morning, Thursday, September 18, as a trough system near the Territory produces scattered showers and cloudy conditions, according to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).

In its morning weather bulletin, the DDM reported a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day, with showers expected to gradually decrease into the evening. No official flood advisories have been issued for the BVI at the time of this report. However, the Department of Disaster Management noted that minor flooding and ponding is possible in low lying and flood prone areas.

Meanwhile, flood advisories have been issued for nearby St. Croix and St. Thomas, where heavier rainfall is impacting low-lying areas. At the time of this report, the USVI is under a flash flood warning until 10:00 am.

The U.S. National Weather Service in San Juan, Puerto Rico, confirmed that the broader region is being influenced by a tropical wave and a nearby trough, which are contributing to unstable atmospheric conditions and increased flood risks in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Residents are advised to remain cautious and to monitor official updates from the DDM in the event conditions worsen later in the day.
