META PLATFORMS HIT BY MAJOR OUTAGE, USERS LOCKED OUT

Update: Users have regained access to all Meta Platforms.

Users across Meta’s social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Threads and Messenger reported being abruptly logged out of their accounts starting around 11am on Tuesday, March 5th. The widespread outage sparked concerns that many profiles may have been hacked.

Details remain limited at this early stage, but all signs point to a broad system issue affecting the core Meta platforms and services rather than any type of coordinated hacking attempt. The exact nature and cause of the disruption has not yet been determined or communicated by the company.

In the absence of official information from Meta, confused and frustrated users have flocked to other social networks like X (formerly Twitter) to air grievances and seek answers about the outage and loss of account access.

“I kept getting logged out of Instagram and Facebook, tried logging in again and my accounts were just gone,” one X user reported. “Is Facebook down again?” posted another.

Meta Representative Andy Stone also took to X to acknowledge the issue.

On the lighter side of the issue, X Owner and businessman Elon Musk also took the opportunity to comedically chime in.
