INCOMING BVI NATIONALS CAN QUARANTINE AT HOME BUT MUST PAY COST FOR TESTING AND CONTACT TRACING

Nationals returning to the British Virgin Islands after December 1st will be able to quarantine for the stipulated 4-8 days within the comfort of their home once the space is approved by the Department of Environmental Health in accordance with COVID-19 related protocols.

This was revealed by Minister of Health, Honorable Carvin Malone who said “for nationals returning…with the inclusion of the app, we’re going to be able to quarantine or isolate in your house without the $3500 for instance, because we would not have that added security cost. That particular app would be able to minimize or reduce the occurrence or the need for the physical security.”

The Minister however warned that in the absence of compliance, strong fines will be administered in an effort to deter defiance and reduce the risk of possible community transmission of the virus.

“But it will come at a price because if you are intent on violating the particular protocols, the fees have already been established and the particular tickets will be issued. We have to keep our citizens safe by adhering to the protocols.”

Like tourists, incoming nationals and residents will be mandated to foot the cost of three PCR tests and the required contact tracing app and bracelet which amounts to an estimated $500 per person.
