KEVON S LETTSOME, “IT IS A SLIPPERY SLOPE WHEN ANY GOVERNMENT MAKES A DECISION TO TARGET BUSINESSES WITH A TASK-FORCE AND OTHER HEAVY HANDED ‘SOLUTIONS’ TO CREATE AN ILLUSION OF ACTION.”

In another Facebook post, vocal 7th District Community Youth leader Kevon S Lettsome weighed in on the recent announcement by the Government of the Virgin Islands to create a task Force to target the price gouging which the territory is already experiencing.

Amidst the increase of prices in fuel and goods both globally and locally, the government of the Virgin Islands has launched a task force to investigate various businesses to ensure price gouging isn’t occurring in the territory.

This was announced by Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew Fahie during special press briefing last evening Sunday March 13th.

Fahie said the task force which will include officials from Customs and the Department of Trade will be monitoring prices and moving swiftly to address any business that have increased their prices unjustifiably.

In response Lettsome took to Facebook to share his thoughts. He said, “It is a slippery slope when ANY government makes a decision to target businesses with a task-force and other heavy handed ‘solutions’ to create an illusion of action.  We have recent evidence of how such heavy handed tactics led to the collapse of the Labour and Immigration work permit process.”

Strong community points

Lettsome continued by saying, “Akeem Pickering made several strong points on TOLA RADIO this morning and I would like to encourage everyone to rewatch that portion of the Morning Braff to be informed.”

In closing Lettsome appealed to the Government of the Virgin Islands “Lead with love.  Don’t pit us against each other.  NOBODY wins when the family feuds.”

He said, “Unfortunately, this may excite a lot of my fellow Virgin Islanders who do not understand the ramifications of this move but responsible leadership is supposed to prioritize education, which is why I want to publicly encourage the Premier to be responsible and educate the public about the increase in fuel cost in the short term and the impact of inflation in the near future. Lead with love.  Don’t pit us against each other.  NOBODY wins when the family feuds.”
