Six Cuban nationals and one Kittitian were detained this morning for illegal entry into the British Virgin Islands in a joint operation involving the U.S. Coast Guard, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, the Virgin Islands Search and Rescue and the Joint Task Force.
This was confirmed in a media release from the police which said the seven illegal immigrants included a nine-month-old infant who were all detained on Great Thatch.
According to the release, it was the U.S Coast Guard who alerted the local authorities of a suspicious vessel in BVI waters around 4:30am.
The vessel in question is described as a 50” monohull sailboat which was recovered in nearby waters.
Police said investigations are ongoing in the matter.
