A 96-GUN SALUTE WAS HELD THIS AFTERNOON AS A MARK OF RESPECT TO THE QUEEN

His Excellency Governor John Rankin hosted a gun salute this afternoon as a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who died yesterday, September 8.

Among those present at the ceremony were Premier Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley, Members of the National Unity Government, Opposition Leader Honourable Julian Fraser, Territorial At Large Representative Honourable Carvin Malone, Attorney General Dawn Smith, the Deputy Governor David Archer Jr and other senior members from the public service.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Rankin reflected on the Queen’s legacy.

Premier Wheatley also spoke to the passing of the Queen and what she meant to the territory.

The speeches from the premier and the governor was immediately followed by a 96-gun salute by members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.
