CABINET APPROVES NEW BVI TOURIST BOARD; DELMA MADURO APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN

His Excellency, the Acting Governor Mr. David D Archer, Jr. chaired a cabinet Meeting held on 2nd September, 2022, in the absence of Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, who was overseas on annual leave. With all members present the Meeting was held at the Financial Services Commission Resource Centre, Jones Building and the following was decided:

1. Accepted the 2021 Annual Report for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions; and decided that it be laid on the table at the next convenient Sitting of the House of Assembly.

2. Endorsed:

a. the Minister’s recommendation, in accordance Section 3(3) of the Tourist Board Ordinance, that the following persons be appointed as members of the BVI Tourist Board for four (4) years with effect from 1st September, 2022 to 31st August, 2026:

i. Mrs. Delma Maduro

ii. Mr. Henry Prince;

iii. Mr. Andrew Ball;

iv. Mrs. Keshia Davis Barnes;

v. Mr. Gregory Callwood;

vi. Mrs. Dorcas Fahie;

vii. Mr. Oren Hodge;

viii. Mrs. Shamora Penn Maduro

ix. Mr. Allan Parker;

x. Mr. Miles Sutherland Pilch; and

xi. Ms. Lorraine Wheatley;

b. the Minister’s recommendation, in accordance with Section 3(4) of the Tourist Board Ordinance, that Mrs. Delma Maduro be appointed as Chairman of BVITB for four (4) years with effect from 1st September, 2022 to 31st August, 2026; and:

c. noted that the following four (4) ex officio members will serve on the Board for four (4) years with effect from 1st September, 2022 to 31st August, 2026:

i. Permanent Secretary, Premier’s Office or designate;

ii. Managing Director, BVI Ports Authority or designate;

iii. Managing Director, BVI Airport Authority or designate; and

iv. Director of Tourism; and

d. decided that the Premier’s Office instruct the Attorney General’s Chambers to prepare the Instruments of Appointments for signature for publication in the Virgin Islands Official Gazette in accordance with Section 4 of the Ordinance; and noted:

i. that the members of the Board would be paid the following stipends

for their services by the BVI Tourist Board:

1. Chairman – $1,800 per month

2. Members – $900 per month

ii. that the Premier declared that members of his extended family were being recommended to serve on the Board; and

iii. that the Minister for Health and Social Development declared that his sister was being recommended as a Member to serve on the Board and recused himself from the meeting.
