BVI NOW THE 2ND JURISDICTION OF THE ECSC TO ROLL OUT E-LITIGATION PORTAL FOR MAGISTRATES COURTS

The British Virgin Islands is now the second jurisdiction of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court to roll out the court’s E-litigation portal for Magistrates Courts, which promises to modernise the way of doing things in the justice system.

On November 10th 2022, the British Virgin Islands became the latest jurisdiction of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court to implement the electronic litigation portal at the magistracy level.

On the occasion, Her Ladyship the Honourable Dame Janice Pereira, Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court delivered a feature address in which she stressed the importance of such developments in Magistracy, and the overall justice system, particularly in a territory vulnerable to natural disasters and global crises.

Dame Pereira added that similar was the case in the COVID 19 pandemic, and hammered in the point that the introduction of electronic systems has offered an added level of resilience for the justice system.
