WAS THE POSTPONEMENT OF THE LAST HOA SITTING DUE TO NO QUORUM FORMED? LAST MINUTE POSTPONEMENTS HIGHLY UNUSUAL

The question to be answered is whether there was no quorum formed to convene the 8th Sitting of the 4th Session of the 4th House of Assembly which was originally scheduled for Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.

Members of the press were notified about the unexpected postponement of the Sitting just 32 minutes prior to the scheduled 10:00 a.m. start time on the said Tuesday.

The reason for the postponement which was provided to members of the press was vague, stating that the Sitting was postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

284News reached out to the leader of government business Premier Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley to gain clarity on the reason behind the last minute postponement of the Sitting.

However, up until the publication of this news release, those efforts proved futile.

284News in a subsequent interview with former Speaker of the House of Assembly Ms. Ingrid Moses-Scatliffe, inquired about the various reasons that may result in the last minute postponement of a scheduled Sitting.

In referring to the Standing Orders of the House of Assembly, Moses-Scatiffe said usually when such an instance occurs on the day of the Sitting, it is due to something significant, like a national disaster or once a quorum is not met.
