MOU WITH CARICOM IMPACS SIGNED FOR EXCHANGE OF ADVANCED PASSENGER INFORMATION

The Memorandum of Understanding with the CARICOM Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) for the exchange of Advance Passenger Information (API) has been signed by the Government of the Virgin Islands.

The signing occurred during a brief ceremony that included dignitaries including the Governor His Excellency John Rankin, Premier Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley, Deputy Premier Hon. Kye Rymer, Permanent Secretary in the Premier’s Office Carolyn Stoutt-Igwe and Executive Director for CARICOM IMPACS Lieutenant Colonel Michael Jones.

Speaking on the signing, Premier Wheatley said through the API System the competent authorities and participating states are required to ensure that the particulars of all flights and voyages as well as persons on board are collected and transmitted to IMPACS within specified time frames ahead of the departure of the flight or voyage.

He detailed some of the many benefits that will result from the signing of the MOU.

Premier Wheatley also said that the signing of this memorandum of understanding promotes regional safety that has shown proven results.
