T20 CRICKET RETURNS THIS WEEKEND TO GREENLAND

The BVI Cricket Association is getting ready to host their 2023 T20 Cricket Tournament with games set to begin on Sunday, February 5th.

The tournament is set to run until April 30th and will consist of a total of 10 teams that will be contesting for $4700 in cash prizes for the teams that finish in the top three positions.

President of the BVI Cricket Association Mr. Vajendra Bharat spoke to 284News about the tournament and revealed that there is an increase in participation with the addition of another team.

“Police is back in the tournament. Of the ten teams, we created two zones: Zone A and Zone B where Cavaliers will be taking on Falcons in the opening game from Sunday, February 5th at 2 pm. We will have an opening ceremony at lunchtime before the first game. The tournament is scheduled to go for 14 weeks Including the semis and the finals,” he said.

Bharat also spoke about the positive impact that the tournament will have on the East End/Long Look community with the return of cricket in the area.

He said, “We are trying to go bigger and better. People have been asking from day one for cricket. A lot of people are looking for something to do on Sundays and it’s a very nice and relaxing atmosphere in Greenland. We normally have 2 games per day.”

The Group A teams include Cavaliers, RTW Falcons, Grenada, Vikings and Police while the Group B teams include Royal Knights, Combined Renegades, Vincy, Under the Tree, and Rising Stars.
