A NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMME IS NEEDED WITHIN ALL SCHOOLS ACROSS THE TERRITORY

At-Large candidate Dr. Kedrick Pickering as well as Eighth District candidate Allen Wheatley are both of the opinion that a nutritional programme is needed within schools across the territory.

Pickering, who will be contesting the upcoming general election under the National Democratic Party (NDP) made the statement at a public meeting at the Stickett in Long Look recently.

He said since the hurricanes of 2017 and the COVID-19 pandemic, the BVI took a significant loss economically, leaving a number of families and households struggling to afford the basic necessities.

This he said has impacted school children in the BVI, who sometimes are made to attend school without having access to the proper nourishment needed to function in the classroom.

Also sharing a similar sentiment on a separate platform recently was Eighth District candidate Allen Wheatley, who will be contesting under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP).

Wheatley also explained what sparked his interest in addressing this issue, pointing to the dangers associated with some students who have to leave the school premises to buy lunch from nearby food vendors.
