OUTDATED SYSTEMS DELAYING DEVELOPMENT IN THE VI – T. CHRISTOPHER

Independent Candidate for District 2 Troy Christopher believes that a major issue facing the Territory, and his district by extension, is the continued operation of Government Systems in an outdated, bureaucratic manner.

While present as a guest on 284 Media’s Just for the Record Programme, Christopher said that if elected he would make it a priority that these systems are updated.

He expanded on the issue by explaining that in addition to the need for technological advancement, there is a need for the staffing structures at ministries to be revisited.

He added that the public service needs to grow as the population of the Territory continues to increase.

Christopher noted that the approach of past governments to foreign investors has made it clear that they know very well that the systems in place need to be changed.

He questioned why local investors are not granted these same courtesies.

As it relates to the distribution of funds and assistance to the communities, he recognized that efforts have been made in the past. One of which included allowing District Representatives greater autonomy in distributing monies.

A system, he said, was also flawed as it went too far in circumventing mechanisms which would have ensured transparency.
