BVIEC INVESTIGATING CAUSE OF RECENT ISLAND-WIDE SHUTDOWN

The cause of the island-wide power outage over the weekend is yet to be known as the matter is presently being investigated by the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC).

This was confirmed in a media release by the BVIEC on Tuesday, May 9.

“The BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) would like to inform its valued customers that on Saturday, 6th May 2023 at approximately 10:17 a.m. a fault occurred at the Henry Wilfred Smith Power Station which resulted in a total system shutdown,” the entity stated.

“The entire grid was restored by 2:55 p.m. and the cause of the fault is currently under investigation,” the BVIEC added.

The Corporation said it regrets any inconvenience caused during the more than 4-hour shutdown which impacted many businesses and households across the territory.
