GOVERNOR SAYS HE WANTS THE GOVT TO SUCCEED IN COI IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS

Governor His Excellency John Rankin has publicly expressed his support in favour of the Government fully completing the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) Recommendations.

Governor Rankin made the comment while recently appearing as a guest on the local talk show “Talking Points”.

He at the time was responding to a question from one of the hosts on how the people of the territory can contribute to assisting the Government and the Governor’s Office in seeing all the recommendations implemented.

As it relates to his satisfaction with the current progress made so far, Governor Rankin said he believes a more focused approach is needed to fast-track the overall process.

The governor also provided some examples to highlight some of the areas where progress has been stalled, naming the WhistleBlower Act and the Register of Interests Act as two prime examples where the government has fallen short in the implementation of the COI recommendations.

Governor Rankin said he is hopeful that the government can come to an agreement on the new deadline for the implementation of the COI recommendations before the end of this month.
