JUNE 1ST DECLARED VIRGIN ISLANDS DAY IN THE CITY OF TAMARAC, FLORIDA

June 1st has been officially declared “Virgin Islands Day” in the City of Tamarac, Florida.

This was announced by Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio Wheatley moments after he returned to the Territory on the inaugural American Airlines direct flight from Miami on Thursday Afternoon. 

Premier Wheatley and Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Kye Rymer were on official business in Florida this week, during which they received the official proclamation confirming the observation.

The proclamation highlighted the relationship between the Virgin Islands and the City of Tamarac stating “The people of the Virgin Islands share deep bonds of friendship and familial ties with many citizens and residents in the United States, the State of Florida and the City of Tamarac….. The City of Tamarac has Virgin Islanders who serve the community on the police force, own small businesses and is home to the family of an NFL Star”.

The proclamation also noted the Territory’s advancement as a Tourism destination and highlighted the chosen date, June 1st which aligned with the commencement of the direct commercial flight between the BVI and the US Mainland, as an occasion that will “serve to deepen ties with the United States and the State of Florida”.
