BANNING MUSICAL ARTISTS IS NOT THE WAY TO TACKLE CRIME– SAYS PREMIER

Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Hon. Natalio Wheatley has made it clear that his government has no intention of censoring or banning any of the musical artists who are set to grace the Festival Grounds for the 2023 Emancipation Festival.

The premier’s comments came during the press conference that was held on Thursday by members of the National Security Council to address the growing concerns relating to crime in the territory.

It was in response to a question that was asked by local media as to why the government is allowing artists such as Peanut and Byron Massiah to perform in the territory, considering the nature of their lyrics which glorifies violence and crime.

The premier also pointed to the feedback from residents in the territory who have mostly expressed that they are pleased with the lineup for this year’s Emancipation Festival.

The premier also compared the contents of music to that of movies and popular tv shows, stating that what residents decide to consume is their personal choice.
