PREMIER WHEATLEY ADDRESSES PHILIPPE AFTERMATH

The Premier acknowledged that the rainfall was much more than initially forecasted and put significant pressure on the region’s infrastructure and resources. He highlighted the increasing frequency of such extreme weather events due to climate change and emphasized the need for greater resilience and adaptation.

The Premer noted that despite preparatory measures taken from May to August, including cleaning all ghuts and major drains, some watercourses were overwhelmed. However, he noted, most of the infrastructure held up, with only a few areas requiring immediate attention.
