SEVERAL NEW MEASURES INSTITUTED AT POCKWOOD POND LANDFILL TO KEEP FIRES AT A MINIMUM

The Director of the Department of Waste Management Mr. Marcus Solomon says he has seen significant improvement in the management of the waste at the Pockwood Pond Landfill since taking the position five months ago.

Solomon said while there will be the occasional smoke observed in hotspot areas on top of the hill at the landfill due to the absence of the much-needed incinerator, the number of fires has significantly reduced following the implementation of a new system.

Solomon provided some details on the operation of the new system.

The director also spoke about the new protocol in place at the dumpsite that alerts the relevant personnel to respond quickly to all categories of fires.
