BVIHSA SHUTS DOWN RUMOURED SWINE FLU OUTBREAK

There is no evidence at this time to support recent claims of a swine flu outbreak in the British Virgin Islands.

That’s according to the BVI Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) who responded to recent social media messages about a potential swine flu outbreak in the territory in a recent statement.

While acknowledging respiratory illnesses like COVID-19, influenza, rhinovirus and pneumonia are rising, the BVIHSA stresses no confirmed swine flu cases have been reported.

They have advised that residents get vaccinated against influenza and COVID-19 to reduce severe symptoms and transmission. At-risk groups are also encouraged to consult healthcare providers regarding the pneumococcal vaccine.

General preventive measures are recommended including hand hygiene, mask-wearing, cough etiquette, ventilation, and staying home when ill.

The BVIHSA says they are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as needed. They welcome any inquiries for more information.
