FUNERAL FOR MALONE TO BE HELD ON FEB 2 – BODY TO LIE IN STATE ON FEB 1

The funeral for the Former Minister for Health and Social Development, the late Carvin Malone will be held on February 2, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Tortola.

The House of Assembly (HOA) announced the details relating to Malone’s funeral service on Friday, stating that the official funeral will commence with a procession from the House of Assembly at 8:00 a.m. to the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

“A pre-service is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Road Town Methodist Church Cemetery. Official flags will be flown in the Territory at half-mast on February 2 at all Government buildings” the HOA stated.

For persons travelling from the sister islands of Anegada, Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dkye, the HOA revealed that ground transportation will be provided from the respective ferry terminals in Road Town and West End, to and from the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.

Malone’s body will lie in state on Thursday, February 1 at the House of Assembly where the public can freely pay their last respects between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The BVI was immediately sent into mourning on Sunday, January 14 after the sudden passing of Malone who died at the age of 64.

His contribution to politics in the BVI spans more than two decades, serving as the President of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) from 1999 to 2016 before being elected in the 2019 General Election where he served until 2023.

During his time as a first-time legislator, Malone served as the Minister for Health and Social Development from 2019-2022.
