ISLANDERS, ONE LOVE & VG UNITED PROVE DOMINANT IN GOAL FEST WEEKEND

It was a goal fest in the BVI Football Association’s National League last weekend with Islanders FC netting 10, and One Love FC and VG United both converting 8 goals apiece.

Playing in the first game of the weekend on Saturday, January 20, One Love FC, keen to reignite their season, achieved a resounding 8-1 win against Old Madrid FC.

Manager Javon Carty expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting the impact of new signings and increased squad depth. Johari Lacey’s hat-trick, coupled with goals from Zeron Samuel, Shyane Prince (2), and Latriel Williams (2), sealed the victory, though a late consolation goal from Chevon Russel of Old Madrid added a blemish to an otherwise dominant display.

On Sunday in the first match of the double-header at the Greenland football field, Wolues FC maintained their pursuit of the top spot with a convincing 6-0 rout of Panthers FC. Hugo Liziario continued his goal-scoring spree with a brace, taking his season tally to thirteen. Marcus Robinson also scored twice, while Oliver Henderson and Colm Edwards contributed to the commanding victory.

In the second game at 8:30 p.m., Islanders FC declared their intentions with the most significant win of the season, thrashing Positive FC 10-1. Collin Lavia and Oswort Holder both secured hat-tricks, supported by goals from Antonio Rodney, Carlos Septus, Sheldon Harry Jr. and an unfortunate own goal. Delshawn Daley scored the lone goal for Positive FC.

Meanwhile, over at the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground on Sunday, VG United, the league leaders, displayed their resilience and attacking flair as they overcame early pressure to secure an 8-0 victory against Rebels FC.

Manager Jermain Abrams praised the team’s performance, emphasizing the fun the players are having amidst the increasing competition. VG United’s seventh win of the season featured goals from Jaadon Quashie (2), Deshawn Richardson (2), T’Khoi Richardson, Devante Samuel, Thomas Albert, and Mikel Morain.

In the Women’s National League, VG United enjoyed a 3-0 victory against Rebels FC in week 2 of the tournament.

Games continue this weekend in the Men’s National League. On Saturday, January 27, Old Madrid will take on Islanders FC at Greenland at 8:30 p.m. while on Sunday, also at Greenland, One Love FC plays Positive FC at 6:00 p.m. followed by Lion Heart FC versus VG United at 8:30 p.m.

Over on Virgin Gorda, Sugar Boys will be up against Wolues at 7:30 p.m.
