AC ISSUES AT THE HOSPITAL TO BE RESOLVED BY APRIL 10

The British Virgin Islands Health Services Authority (BVIHSA) has provided an update regarding the ongoing air conditioning issues at the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital, expressing optimism that the situation will be resolved by Wednesday, April 10.

In a public announcement, the BVIHSA revealed that the replacement part required to address the air conditioning system malfunction has arrived in the territory. A technician is scheduled to arrive on Monday, April 8, to install and update the system, with the expectation that full functionality will be restored by Wednesday.

Despite the challenges posed by the AC issues, the BVIHSA assured the public that patient care remains a top priority and continues without interruption. The Health Services Authority said the Imaging Unit is operating on a limited schedule from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., providing essential x-ray and ultrasound services. However, it noted that diagnostic services such as CT scans, MRIs, and mammograms are temporarily unavailable.

The BVIHSA further informed that emergency surgeries are proceeding smoothly, and the hospital’s emergency department remains fully operational, and equipped to address patients’ needs efficiently and effectively. While elective surgeries are on hold until the AC issue is resolved, urgent cases are receiving immediate attention.

The Health Services Authority also noted that visiting hours remain unaffected, ensuring that patients can receive the support and comfort of their loved ones during their hospital stay. Additionally, it said essential services such as those provided by the Road Town Clinic, laboratory services, and dialysis services remain unaffected, ensuring critical medical care is readily accessible to those in need.

In response to the challenges posed by the AC issues, the BVIHSA has implemented measures to enhance patient comfort and well-being. This includes providing additional fans and strategically opening windows in patient rooms to improve ventilation, mitigating any discomfort caused by the temporary disruption.

As efforts continue to address the air conditioning issues at the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital, the BVIHSA said it remains committed to providing high-quality healthcare services to the community, prioritizing patient safety and well-being throughout the resolution process.
