In a recent press release from the Government of the Virgin Islands through the Ministry of Health and Social Development, it was announced that the British Virgin Islands has been placed in the “danger zone” for the number of active cases of fever and respiratory syndromes detected at present.

The Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit in the Ministry of Health stated, “a significant increase in reports of fever and respiratory syndromes in both the over and under five age groups. Last week’s increase is associated with an increase of SARS-CoV-2 cases, which represents approximately 51 percent of Fever and Respiratory reports.”

The Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit advised the public to remain watchful and advised healthcare providers to conduct necessary tests on patients presenting with symptoms.

The Unit also advised the public to wear masks to enforce proper hand and respiratory hygiene practices.
