Virgin Islands Schools Closed Due to Adverse Weather Conditions

The Ministry of Education has announced the closure of all public schools across the Virgin Islands today, following a recommendation from the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).

The decision comes in response to adverse weather conditions, including anticipated cloudy spells, showers, and thunderstorms that are expected to impact the territory throughout the day.

In a statement released early Monday, the Ministry of Education emphasized that the safety of students and staff remains a top priority. The ministry encouraged students and teachers to stay at home and take necessary precautions as the weather system moves through the region.

Additionally, the ministry urged teachers to support continued learning by providing assignments through online platforms wherever possible, recognizing that some areas are currently experiencing electricity outages.

St. Georges Secondary School also released a notice to parents and guardians, echoing the ministry’s sentiments and confirming the closure of its school. The school announced that classwork and assignments would be available on Schoology, their online learning platform, to allow students to maintain their studies from home. The school administration encouraged parents to have students check for assignments and complete any tasks posted.

Similarly, the H Lavity Stoutt Community College announced the closure of both it’s campuses on Tortola and Virgin Gorda due to the weather.

Community members are advised to monitor official updates throughout the day and take precautionary measures as necessary.
