Hon. Julian Fraser, Deputy Premier and Minister for Environment of the British Virgin Islands, delivered his closing remarks as outgoing Chair of the OECS Council of Ministers: Environmental Sustainability at the 12th regular meeting in Antigua and Barbuda.
Fraser thanked the host country, incoming Chair Hon. Sir Molwyn Joseph, fellow ministers, and regional partners for their collaboration and support. He also praised OECS Director General Dr. Didacus Jules and Environmental Division Head Mr. Chamberlain Emmanuel for their dedication.
Reflecting on his term, Fraser highlighted the region’s ongoing environmental challenges, especially in the wake of Hurricane Beryl’s 2024 devastation in St. Vincent and Grenada. He emphasized the urgent need for climate resilience, noting the increasing threat of severe weather events.
He acknowledged the foundation laid by Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley, who previously held the OECS Chair, and reiterated support for the OECS Road Map to 2030—an initiative focused on sustainable development and environmental action.
This year’s meeting theme, “Staying the Course in Perilous Times,” reinforces the region’s commitment to resilience and sustainability amid growing environmental and economic pressures.
Fraser closed by pledging full support to Sir Molwyn Joseph and wishing the Council continued success.
