D.O.H. said in a release, “After further investigating cause of death and ensuring notification of next of kin, the Virgin Islands Department of Health is saddened to confirm the territory’s eighty-eighth death related to COVID-19. The deceased is a 57-year-old female on St. Croix.”

Speaking during the Bryan administration’s weekly press briefing, Dept. of Health Deputy Commissioner Reuben Molloy said no Omicron cases of Covid-19 had been identified in the territory, however the department continued to urge vigilance and adherence to protocols.

Even without the detection of the Omicron variant, it does not mean that the strain is not yet in the U.S. Virgin Islands, officials warned.

Positive cases of the virus have been inching up in recent days, with total territory-wide infections as of Monday being 58: 38 on St. Croix, 19 on St. Thomas and 1 on St. John, according to D.O.H.
