Virgin Islander Alliyah Boston who recently created history after being selected as the number one pick in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) draft, has signed a multi-year contract with global sportswear brand Adidas.
The deal for the United States Virgin Islands native who originates from St. Thomas is a footwear and apparel endorsement which will see Boston becoming the face of the brand alongside other female basketball stars such as Candace Parker, Chelsea Gray and Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike.
Speaking following the announcement Boston said, “It feels amazing to be part of Adidas… Adidas is empowering women, and they’re opening the doors for women’s sports. It’s just continuing to grow the game.”
Adidas Basketball Global General Manager Eric Wise said the brand is excited to have the Indiana Fever center added to the team.
“We are beyond excited to welcome Aliyah to our Adidas Basketball family. She exudes strength, resilience, versatility and natural skill that is unmatched…I know she’ll leave a lasting impact on the future of the game, and we are proud to be a part of this moment and support her on her journey to greatness,” Wise said.
Her first assignment as part of the brand came in an interview format series entitled “Remember The Why,” which involved Boston discussing how she got started in sport, taking the journey from childhood days on St. Thomas.
